FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Hills & Valleys

BLOG POST

Yea, though I walk through the valley … no fear … Goodness, and Mercy shadow me all the days I live on this earth.

When at any time we are faced with challenges, the first emotion that may arise in our hearts is fear. Human nature is not always confident, hopeful, optimistic when it comes to fiery trials of any sort, no matter what area of our life is impacted. The key factor in any given crisis is our response— how are we going to react? What modus operandi will we activate. Note, modus operandi is a legal term used to describe methodology an individual customarily is known by. When we are in the valley of the shadow, our usual response determines the outcome. When we have accomplished a mountainous task, our normal human response is jubilation. We are preening and peacocking on the hilltop.

Do we ever stop to think that all of the valleys are teachable moments in preparation for the next climb? The next “level,” as it were, to a greater task? Hills & Valleys are setups for success. Examples are set out in the Bible. What determines the measure of a strengthened heart, to see a valley as an opportunity, is what was my past response to the last valley I went through and how did I overcome it.

Whenever there is a mountaintop experience, just know there will be another valley to go through. But next time let’s not operate in fear — only faith that He will be with you. A prime early example in scripture is Abraham going up the mountain to sacrifice his son. In the act of obedience and faith Abraham obtained double blessing and became the father of faith. (See Gen. 22 NKJV).
